ROY THINNES
Gold Key was the premiere company for TV and Movie adaptations after Dell was bought out by KK Publications. This is issue #1. There were only 4 comics issued every 3 months and featured a full length story closely following the Invader mythos but not copies of existing episodes. The stories are stand alone and very well written. Roy is well drawn on the inside of this full length story by artist Dan Spiegle, who also is famous for his work with Space Family Robinson/Lost In Space comics, which ran for a couple of decades. Photo from the episode "The Mutation". Mint, this baby goes for about $100 or more, but you can sometimes grab one reasonable on Ebay. The cover features an extremely rare photo of the unusual alien ray gun. The gun was first used in Episode 3 of the first season, and was mainly a typical heat ray. Later episodes, the weapon became smaller and fired a burst of energy plasma that immolated anything it touched. Unlike the traditional "zap" one hears in most all science fiction fare, the Invader's weapon sounded more like a dull thump. Well, the aliens wanted to be discreet!
Issue 2 features a great publicity shot with art superimposed. Interior art again by Spiegle.
Issue 3 features a publicity photo and a great action shot of Roy from a first season episode. Interior art again by Spiegle.
Issue 4 features 2 great publicity shots and the full length story is a wonderful tale reminiscent of "The Mutation"
This is a mexican version of the Gold Key #1 issue.
The French Version also featured another TV show comic adaptation, Flipper, taken also from American Gold Key Comics and translated into French.
A British Tabloid comic featuring some great cover art. The stories within were a mix of prose and comic frames and not exclusively Invaders related material. Other TV shows and comic characters from the Gold Key line were featured. If anyone knows of any other comic versions, please send details along.
